The Personal Care Assistant provides assistance with Activities of Daily Living. ADLs are "the things we normally do" in daily living, including any daily activity we perform for self-care. These activities include feeding ourselves, bathing, dressing, grooming, homemaking, shopping, errands and leisure activities for FUN!
Health care and insurance professionals routinely refer to the ability or inability to perform ADLs as a measurement of the functional status of a person. Caregiving also includes companionship, listening, patience, encouragement and love.
Normal aging, long and short term illnesses, and/or injury can create a need for assistance with one or all of these tasks.
